April 1, 2015 ANDREW CUOMO ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR PRESIDENCY AND RESIGNS GOVERNORSHIP
"There comes a time a nations life when a charismatic leader must rise and take the reigns before it's too late."
Democratic leaders have been mute on the governor's declarations. lawmakers finished work on New York’s budget early Wednesday amid simmering resentment overGov. Cuomo’s education reforms— which opened up an unusual rift between the city and state teachers’ unions.
The Senate finished voting on the nearly $150 billion spending plan before the midnight start of the new fiscal year. But the Assembly debate dragged past the deadline to finish just before 3 a.m., technically delivering Cuomo his first late budget in his five years in office.
The budget has Cuomo-backed measures to toughen teacher evaluations, make it easier to fire bad teachers and put chronically failing schools into receivership.
