‘El gran varón’

Willie Colón se encuentra celebrando sus bodas de oro por su carrera artística, 30 de haber grabado ‘El gran varón’ y 50 años de pertenecer al grupo Fania All Star, motivo por lo que festejará con un concierto en el teatro Metropólitan.
“El tema se ha convertido en un himno y está colocado dentro de las primeras 25 canciones más escuchadas. ‘El gran varón’ se ‘cocinó’ en el salón La Maraka, en México, y de ahí salió al mundo... Es un tema que debo cantar en todos los conciertos”, dijo Willie.
Activista, político, compositor, productor musical y Sheriff en un Condado de Nueva York, Colón reconoció que la salsa es un género que no desaparecerá.
“Yo no tengo falta de trabajo. Hay demanda en todas partes, en América Latina, en Europa y Estados Unidos. Yo sé que hay otros géneros ahorita que están destacando como el reguetón, pero la salsa tiene un lugar especial... pese a que también no hay grandes valores nuevos en la salsa”.
Y aunque el género que domina actualmente la industria musical es el urbano, para el compositor este tipo de música contiene muchas influencias de la salsa, pues al igual que con el reguetón, las letras surgen de las vivencias de las clases marginadas.
“Yo estaría dispuesto a grabar reguetón, pero no cualquier reguetón... Para mi, se trata de la canción no el género. Si hay algo interesante, adelante”, añadió el músico en entrevista telefónica desde Nueva York con motivo de su concierto el próximo 30 de mayo en la Ciudad de México.
Afirmó que está desempolvando su escritorio y en breve entrará al estudio de grabación para que en este mismo año tenga listo un nuevo producto discográfico.

Willie Colón is celebrating his golden wedding for his artistic career, 30 having recorded 'El gran hombre' and 50 years of belonging to the Fania All Star group, which is why he will celebrate with a concert at the Metropólitan theater.
"The song has become a hymn and is placed in the first 25 most listened songs. 'The great man' was 'cooked' in the La Maraka hall in Mexico, and from there he went out into the world ... It's a song that I have to sing in all the concerts, "said Willie.
Activist, politician, composer, music producer and Deputy Lt. Sheriff in New York, Colón recognized that salsa is a genre that will not disappear.
"I do not have a lack of work. There is demand everywhere, in Latin America, in Europe and the United States. I know there are other genres right now that are standing out like reggaeton, but salsa has a special place ... although there are also no great new values in salsa. "
And although the genre that currently dominates the music industry is urban, for the composer this type of music contains many influences of salsa, because as with reggaeton, the lyrics emerge from the experiences of the marginalized classes.
"I would be willing to record reggaeton, but not any reggaeton ... If there is something interesting, for me, it's about the song not the genre," added the musician in a telephone interview from New York on the occasion of his concert on May 30 in Mexico City.
He affirmed that he is dusting off his desk and will soon enter the recording studio so that in this same year he has a new record product ready.
